About Haikuhito
Welcome to Haiku Hito. The purpose of the website is to produce a haiku* every week of the year (2009). Because of the variety of my life experience, my poetry is all over the place. I will haiku the latest news and ancient history, the beauty of nature and the brutality of human injustice, significant people, events and inconsequential observations. The website is an opportunity to dump my thoughts in a single cyber space. The poems I wrote throughout 2008 are available for your perusal. You can either use the calendar or read through the seasonal commentaries. If you like what you read, come back for more. If you’re not satisfied with what you find ~ write your own.
*Haiku is much more than just three lines of seventeen syllable. There exists many stylistic aspects of haiku writing which I do not include in my poems. For example, haikus usually include a reference to nature, a kigo in Japanese, but I do not always do this. There are many other aspects of haiku which add to its depth and complexity/simplicity. What I write might just be considered a poem consisting of three lines. Regardless of what proper writers of haiku might think, I consider the poems haiku.
